Reminder: If you’re having trouble with a university IT resource such as Testudo or the MyUM portal, the place to find whether there is a system-wide problem is the OIT Help Desk Website: www.helpdesk.umd.edu. You can see a listing of known issues and scheduled outages there, and also use the IT Service Center to subscribe to updates on any listed issues.
The Courtyards provides Comcast cable service through the University of Maryland. Click here for the cable channel line-up. We hope that you can catch up on your favorite shows after class.
The University of Maryland on-campus residence halls and Greek chapter houses, South Campus Commons apartments, and University Courtyards apartments are equipped with a Q2Q system, which allows students to have their television with QAM-compliant tuner connected straight to the wall plate. The television will be connected directly to the wall jack using a coaxial cable cord and will not use a cable box.
Cable Troubleshooting Tips and Tricks
Verify that there is a coaxial cable going from the wall plate to the television. The coaxial cord must be connected to the barrel connector on the back of the TV and be tightly connected to the wall jack.
*Please note, only a Coaxial cable cord can be used from the wall plate to the Television. HDMI, Component, Audio Visual, or any cord of that form is not compatible with the system.
Perform a channel scan on the television. This can be done by accessing the menu on your TV. There may be several different categories inside the menu options, please navigate to the “auto scan” option. Once the channel scan is complete, hit the exit option. The full channel lineup should then be accessible on the TV.
*Please note, this process can take anywhere from 5-10 minutes depending on the TV. Please be patient. This time allows your television to search the many channels and add them to your lineup.
Still Need Assistance?
Comcast has added The Courtyards apartments to their system to allow for the scheduling of service calls. The account number or telephone number for your room is not needed when you call the Bulk Call Center. Simply identify yourself as calling from the University of Maryland, The Courtyards apartments, and provide your Building number. The call center agents will be able to schedule a service call for your room.
The Comcast Call Center that handles the University of Maryland’s service issues can be reached by dialing x4-CATV on-campus, or 301-314-CATV (2288) from a cell phone or off-campus telephone. The call center is staffed from 7:00am-11:00pm, seven days a week.
To report your problem via email, the email address is firstname.lastname@example.org. Please include your name, Courtyards address, and a brief description of the problem.
To submit a trouble ticket for cable problems, residents may visit: http://drf.umd.edu/cablehelp/
Should an appointment be needed, appointment times are available as follows:
Monday – Friday: 8:30 AM to 5:30 PM
Saturday: 9 AM to 4 PM
Saturday & Sunday: No appointments available
Since some cable problems originate in areas outside the apartment, this schedule is maintained to ensure staff is available to grant Comcast technicians access to locked areas where cable equipment is housed.

Additional Mail Information
As a Courtyard’s lease holder you authorize the Courtyards to accept packages, parcels, and deliveries on your behalf. However, packages will not be accepted until a resident officially checks in. As a lease holder you agree to hold Courtyards free of liability or responsibility for packages, parcels, or deliveries should they be lost, damaged, or otherwise harmed. Furthermore, Residents understand that if packages, parcels or deliveries are not claimed within fourteen (14) days, they will either be returned to the sender or discarded as Landlord deems appropriate.
Packages are logged daily by the Courtyards staff when the package delivery company is unable to deliver directly to the apartment. When a package is delivered for a resident, the resident will receive an e-mail notifying him/her of the package. Packages can be claimed Monday through Thursday 9AM-10PM, Friday 9AM-5PM, Saturday 10AM-8PM, and Sunday 12PM-10PM. A valid University I.D. is required to claim your packages.
When expecting a package, The Courtyards asks that you come to claim your package only after you have received the email that informs you it has been received. Some delivery companies deliver directly to your door, and USPS will deliver smaller packages directly to your mailbox. Due to the volume of packages received, we are unable to search for packages prior to them being logged.
Trash and recycling receptacles are available for resident use at the back of the Courtyards property near the rear entrance gate. Additionally, there are receptacles located behind Building 100 and next to Building 300. Residents are expected to dispose of all household waste at these locations. Discarding bags of trash and/or recycling in the small garbage cans throughout the property is prohibited. This causes the cans to fill quickly and overflow, and is more likely to attract animals and pests.
Any trash or recycling bags left outside of apartments or on balconies remain the responsibility of residents. If trash or recycling is found outside of your apartment or on your balcony, it will not be removed by Courtyards staff. In addition, each resident of the apartment will be billed $15 per bag/item for each day that the bag/item remains.
Recycling at the Courtyards
Here at the Courtyards we are able to “commingle” our recyclables! That means you can put all of your recyclable items into one container without sorting, and the sorting will be done by the recyclers.
